Brewcrafter Counter Pressure Bottle Filler – Guide and Review
Introduction
Efficient bottling is crucial for maintaining the quality and carbonation of your homebrew, ensuring minimal CO2 loss and waste. The Brewcrafter Counter Pressure Bottle Filler offers a reliable solution for homebrewers seeking to streamline their bottling process. In this guide/review, we’ll explore the unboxing, setup, usage, and maintenance of the Brewcrafter Counter Pressure Bottle Filler. Note that this is not a sponsored or paid review; these are my own thoughts about the device. The device was given to me to enable this review.
Unboxing and First Impressions
The Brewcrafter Counter Pressure Bottle Filler arrives in a compact, unbranded box, complete with extra gaskets and a manual. The initial unboxing reveals a well-constructed device designed to simplify the bottling process. The Brewcrafter is designed to fill bottles without excessive foaming, reducing waste and mess. It comes in a sleek black matte coating that leaves no fingerprints, adding a professional touch to any homebrewing setup.
How to Use the Brewcrafter
Using the Brewcrafter is straightforward:
- Sanitizing: Before starting, run a sanitizing solution through the system using my DIY inline cleaner and give it a good spray with a pump spray bottle filled with sanitizer. This ensures all components are sanitized and ready for use.
- Connecting: Hook up the Brewcrafter with your keg and CO2 regulator. Ensure that both the keg and the Brewcrafter are hooked up to the same regulator and pressure on your CO2 regulator is not set higher than 0.8 bars. Tip: Do a quick pressure release on the keg to ensure the pressure is not higher than 0.8 bars in the keg before hooking it up. Run beverage through the device to flush out the sanitizer.
- Filling: Clamp the bottle to the Brewcrafter, turn the main handle to the CO2 position to pressurize the bottle, then switch to the beer position and slowly open the flow control dial to start filling. When the bottle is full, turn the main handle to the off position and release the clamp to loosen the bottle. Cap the bottle instantly before moving on to the next one. For the next bottle, you don’t need to open the flow control as it is already open, but you might need to fine-tune the flow rate.
- Cleaning: Immediately run a sanitizing solution through the system using my DIY inline cleaner and give it a good spray with a pump spray bottle filled with sanitizer. You might want to run a cleaning solution through the system once in a while, but I wouldn’t bother doing that every time if I run sanitizer through it directly.
Practical Tips and Troubleshooting
For optimal performance:
- Use hose clamps that you clamp on rather than screw on for secure connections.
- Maintain equal pressure in the keg and bottle to ensure smooth filling.
- Regularly clean and sanitize all parts to prevent contamination.
The Brewcrafter’s flow control dial is intended to be adjusted once per keg, but you may need to tweak it occasionally to achieve the correct flow rate. If you encounter excessive foaming, adjust the flow rate and ensure the beverage and bottles are at the correct temperature.
Final Thoughts and Recommendations
The Brewcrafter Counter Pressure Bottle Filler delivers on its promise of simplifying the bottling process for homebrewers. Its high-quality construction, ease of use, and versatile bottle clamps make it a valuable addition to any homebrewing setup. However, it’s important to note that the manual advises against using glass bottles, despite the device being marketed for such use. This discrepancy raises concerns about liability and safety.
